Early in 1990 four sorors decided to hold an interest meeting. The response was tremendous with over fifty sorors in attendance. After several months of planning and hard work, the interest group was granted a charter. The ceremony was held on June 3, 1990. The ceremony was conducted by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Soror Mary Jeffries. The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered with 43 sorors.

The Membership Committee has targeted
Retention and Reclamation as its areas of concentration. In keeping in line with the International President and her effort for massive reactivation, Sigma Tau Omega seeks to encourage inactive sorors in the area to come visit our chapter and strongly consider joining our ranks. It is important that each soror realizes that her active and financial participation in chapter committees, programs, and activities only strengthens her knowledge and commitment to the chapter and the sorority.

The Membership Committee has Soror Ambassadors at every meeting to extend heartfelt welcomes to each soror attending in an effort to reinforce the importance of active soror participation. This committee also works cooperatively with the Sisterly Relations Committee in developing activities that not only bring sorors to the chapter, but also cultivates and nurtures their tenure in Sigma Tau Omega.

Come and join us!  We look forward to seeing you.

Any current sorors planning on joining our chapter, please fill out a Soror Fact Sheet and bring it with you to a chapter meeting or mail it with your payment.

To reactivate please contact our Membership Chairman.
