PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

The Sigma Tau Omega chapter is committed to serving the citizens of Cary/Western Wake County and surrounding areas. We set yearly goals and programs to meet the targets of our International Office as well as respond to immediate needs/requests from the community.

The 2018-2022 Chapter programs will reflect the mission of our International President, Dr. Glenda Glover. Her International Program is titled Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service. The 2018 - 2022 International Programs consist of five target areas, one signature program, and specifically targeted community service days and partnerships.

  
The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter Program Committee, which is chaired by the chapter's Vice President, implements these plans utilizing the following Signature Program Initiatives:

A significant feature of this programmatic thrust is the launch of AKA UniversitySM! This exciting new platform will serve as the umbrella under which education, training, and leadership development will emerge so that members can enhance their personal development and provide more impactful service to the community.

Another highlight of the Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service program is Community Service Days. Members implement initiatives worldwide on the same day each year. This action demonstrates Alpha Kappa Alpha's collective impact and partnerships.

CHAPTER PROGRAMS

Signature Program - #CAPSM (College Admissions Process)

#CAPSM will assist high school seniors as they seek admission into college by providing guidance and support in completing the application and enrollment process and entry into college. This approach includes all the steps from researching various colleges to actually completing the application process to enrolling in college.

Scholarships
Deadline - June 1, 2020
Educational academic and financial needs scholarships are provided each year. The Collegiate Scholarships are open to:

  1. African American high school graduating seniors from Athens Drive, Cary, Middle Creek, Fuquay-Varina, Apex and Green Hope High Schools or students whose primary residence is in Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Morrisville, and Fuquay-Varina. These students must have a 3.0-grade point average.

  2. Seniors who will study full time at an accredited two or four-year college in the fall of the current year are also eligible.
