SIGMA TAU OMEGA SCHOLARSHIPS 


The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is committed to the development of America's youth. In addition to engaging in mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic development programs, we feel it is important to aid in developing talented young Americans in pursuit of higher education.

Sigma Tau Omega Scholarship


The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter in conjunction with the Ivy Community Service Foundation of Cary, Inc. is pleased to announce seven (7) $2,500 scholarships and two (2) $1,000 scholarships! The qualifications for the scholarhship are as follows:

 

  • High School seniors who are Black or African American

  • Minimum weighted grade point average (GPA) of 3.0

  • Attend one of the high schools below OR reside in Apex, Cary, Fuguay-Varina, Morrisville or Holly Springs AND attend a Wake County magnet, charter, or private school

    • Apex Friendship High School

    • Apex High School

    • Athens Drive High School

    • Cary High School

    • Fuquay-Varina High School

    • Green Hope High School

    • Holly Springs High School

    • Middle Creek High School

    • Panther Creek High School

  • Plan to study full-time at an accredited two or four-year institution in Fall 2020.

    • Letters of recommendation should be from adults who can testify to the character and/or personal drive of the applicant such as teachers, employers, religious leaders, guidance counselors, troop leaders, or other adults (family members excluded).

  • Official School Transcript (Submitted separately by the school)

SHIRLEY FRANKLIN TYREE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

We are also pleased to announce the Shirley Franklin Tyree Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500. This scholarship is available to one currently enrolled college student in an accredited four-year college or university who meets the following criteria:

  • Black or African-American AND

  • Has a minimum GPA of 3.0 AND

  • Has a completed 30 credit hours AND

  • Is majoring in Education OR

  • Is enrolled at Central State University or Wilburforce University in any major
