Welcome from our Basileus

Welcome from the Membership Chairman

Our
Story

Early in 1990, four members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated decided to hold an interest meeting. The response was tremendous with over fifty members in attendance. After several months of planning and hard work, the interest group was granted a charter. The ceremony was held on June 3, 1990. The ceremony was conducted by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Mary Jeffries. The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered with 43 members.

Strong community partnerships, including:

  • Habitat for Humanity – WomenBuild Initiative

  • State Fair Hunger Relief Day – Ongoing since chartering

  • American Cancer Society – Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

  • Co-hosted with the Ivy Community Service Foundation of Cary, Inc.

  • Since 2016, we’ve donated nearly $175,000 in scholarships, grants, and philanthropic contributions.

  • Public celebration of our commitment to education and community support.
